I am the author of three books about sewing toys – check me out on Amazon USA or UK. I love sewing and knitting and anything crafty. I also hate waste and care about the future of the planet. This blog is all about that sort of thing – repurposing fabrics, upcycling clothes… that sort of thing. I live just outside London in the UK. I am mum to Louis, 12 and partner of Roger.

Hi there,
I love what you do. I try to upcycle as much as I can- sheets to curtains, then to wee skirts, then scraps for quilts, etc. Please keep posting your ideas and projects, they’re really inspiring.
Good luck with your new blog!
Julia
Thanks so much for your kind comments, Julia. I’m really having fun with this blog and definitely plan to continue it. Keep up the recycling! Fiona

Hi Fiona
I’ve just seen your ecostitcher blog for the first time – it’s a brilliant idea and you make it seem easy and fun. Even I feel inspired to have a go – and i’m fairly useless at anything crafty.
Loved the photo of Louis in his hat!

Thanks Suz. Watch out for a pic of Rog coming soon in a 70s-style shirt made out of an old duvet cover! Not his normal attire – it’s for a 70s themed party. Lol

Hi Fiona
First time I’ve seen this site & I’m most impressed. I often see things which don’t quite fit but I’m unsure what to do so I don’t buy it. I do as much recycling as I can but changing clothes to fit is brilliant, well done I’m impressed.
Hope Louis is doing well, I guess he must be quite tall now.
Hi Lis Hope you’re doing well. I see you from time to time but we’re both in our cars! Louis is doing fine – in Lanzanrote on a SCD athletics trip at the mo’. You’re right, he seems so tall to me now – 5’8″ and mistaken for an assistant in Top Man the other day! Hope all is going well at Stag. Sad about Mrs S – I hope the new head works out really well. Love Fiona

Hi there, I just found your blog via Fuel for Body and Soul and have had a little browse. I love your refashioning ideas and will make sure I keep popping in to see what you’ve created. I’m good at finding things to repurpose but not so good on the inspiration front. Especially love the idea of a refashioned men’s shirt.

Hi Fiona!
I first found you on Flickr and I fell in love with all of the lovely picture sets of retro stuffed toys. They inspired me so much, that I managed to purchase a copy of the Splendid Soft Toy Book and it is now a favourite of mine as well!
Girl, I like your style!!
I have made several of the cute pom-pom animals and toys featured in the book, but I would like to try more. I cannot sew worth a darn (no pun intended) but I am trying to learn. I am only interested in making cute little soft toys and dollies. I would like to purchase a sewing machine (hand sewing for me is IMPOSSIBLE) The last time I used a sewing machine, I was in grade nine (23 years ago!!)
I enjoy using felt and plush fur… can you please tell me if it is better that these be sewn by hand or can a machine do the work for me?
Please email me if you can. Thank you!
